• Acoustic Fiberglass or Acoustic Mineral wool insulation panels are a functional option for decreasing sounds coming from appliances, machinery, and ceiling and partition panels. • Acoustic Foam absorbs sound waves, reduces echo, and improves acoustics. These kinds of sound absorbing panels also protect from drafts, heat and humidity. • Acoustic Cotton Panels and baffles made from cotton fibers depress low and high frequency sounds. They may be used in commercial and household locations to stop sound transfer. The quality of the set up of your sound insulation will determine just how much noise is eliminated. There is a material that has been engineered for each soundproofing problem. • Doors can be soundproofed with foam tape or silicone seals Silicone is a much better sound seal than vinyl or foam. • Windows can be soundproofed with a window seal kit, a transparent sound barrier, a sound barrier blanket, or soundproof replacement windows. If you are a light sleeper and vehicle noise or neighborhood commotions bother you, then you will need sound proof insulation to preserve a quiet bedroom environment. Alternatively, if you want to limit the sounds coming from a specific room or location you will need sound absorbing insulation. This kind of insulation is chosen to confine noises from movie theater rooms, music studios or any noise-generating room within your building. Soundproofed fabric finished wall seen below. Recycled Cotton Batts
While cotton batts do not block noise, they absorb it from within your wall. These specific materials put an abrupt halt to sound energy that would be rebounding back and forth within the wall cavities. Certain kinds of cotton batting materials, have an added bonus in addition to reducing sound, they insulate. Some cotton batts even performing better than other household thermal insulators. This makes choosing these products a practical and functional alternative to spray forms or fiberglass. These effective products that are typically made of 80% recycled materials and can be easily applied between walls and studs with basic tools. Sound Isolation Systems The leading and most efficient soundproofing method on the market is known as Sound Isolation Systems. The systems function by completely isolating a room from the other infrastructure of a house. Did you know that sound can travel through drywall along common studs? Working with sound isolation systems essentially floats a mounted wall on the studs, stopping the transfer of sound waves. The best part about this system is that it is easy to install, and it increases the strength of the wall and ensures a high quality soundproof. |
The Many Methods of Soundproofing
There are many different ways we can go about soundproofing your space. One of the most effective ways would be to remove the wall or ceiling, close up any sound breaches, insulate, and float a new layer of drywall with residual clips to separate it from the studs or rafters. This creates air space that is needed to reduce sound transmission. Quiet Rock With Green Glue Another option is to add a layer of soundproofing drywall to your wall with a layer of Green Glue compound to prevent sound transmission. We have both easy and in-depth options, to match your level of investment and the scope of the problem. Double Walls One of the most effective sound treatment methods is the double wall is “room within a room” method. It is often used when constructing studios and musical practice spaces. While double walls can be expensive, when used with other soundproofing materials they offer the highest level of sound protection. Other methods require a spring track that is used to isolate a drywall from other wall construction. This method is tedious to install, but efficiently reduces sound transfer. Caution and precision are required when installing because if done incorrectly, the process will not be effective. Heavy Self Adhesive Vinyl- Office or home adding mass is one of the ways to stop sound from breaching. Applying a layer of Mass Load Vinyl (MLV) to your walls is a fraction of the cost of traditional soundproofing like off centered stud walls. MLV stops sound vibrations by damping energy with its non porous, heavy and flexible material.
Staggering Stud Wall- Most standard walls connect just two sheets of gypsum, allowing sound to vibrate through. To create a more effective soundproofed wall we can stagger the studs, double the drywall, add Green Glue and insulate, as in the image below. Though it is a messy process and can take up some real estate in your room, stud staggering does an outstanding job of reducing noise transfer. |
